Howard R. Bromley

MD, MBA, FACPM

Howard R. Bromley, MD received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Miami in 1981. He completed an Anesthesiology residency, Critical Care Medicine fellowship and a Pain Management sub-fellowship in 1985 at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, FL.

In 1985 he started his medical career at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC as an Associate Professor and the Assistant Medical Director of the Surgical Intensive Care unit. He also assisted in the Acute and Chronic Pain Service and was the Medical Director of Respiratory Therapy and the Nutritional Care Service.

In 1987, Dr. Bromley became the Chief of the Anesthesiology Service at the Ralph H. Johnson Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) in Charleston, SC. He also held the title of Medical Director, Surgical Intensive Care Unit, and opened the Chronic Pain Clinic in 1988. He served as the Medical Director of the Chronic Pain Clinic until he left the Charleston VAMC in 2000.

In May 2000, Dr. Bromley was chosen as the Chief of Staff at the Memphis VAMC. He continued his clinical duties in anesthesiology and assisted in opening and staffing the Chronic Pain Clinic at the Memphis VAMC.

He received his Master of Business Administration degree from City University in Bellevue, WA in 2003 via distance learning.

A retired Army Reservist, Dr. Bromley enlisted in the Army Medical Corps during Desert Shield and was commissioned as a Captain (Promotable). He was deployed to Ft. Stewart, GA in February 1991 where he served as the Chief, Intensive Care Service and was a staff anesthesiologist at Winn Army Community Hospital.

While deployed to Ft. Campbell in the summer of 2010 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, Colonel Bromley became the Co-Director of the Pain Clinic at the Blanchfield Army Medical Center. He served as the Chief of Professional Services, 75th Combat Support Hospital, Company B-, at Millington, TN until he retired from the Army in August, 2016 after 26 years of service.

After nearly 30 years of serving in academia with multiple publications and presentations, Dr. Bromley went into private practice in October, 2013 as a Chronic Pain Management Interventionalist. Of all the hats that he has worn in four decades, Dr. Bromley enjoys Pain Management the most as he obtains great satisfaction in seeing his patients improve their overall quality of life.

Dr. Bromley is Board Certified in Anesthesiology by the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA), with Special Qualifications in Critical Care. He is currently Board Certified by the American Board of Pain Management (ABPM) and is a Fellow of the American College of Pain Medicine.

Dr. Bromley is married to Victoria A. Kirschner-Bromley, an avid romance writer (AKA Victoria Houseman). They have two sons and four dogs. When he is not practicing medicine, he is an advanced woodworker building cabinets, and a certified Master Faceter cutting colored gemstones.
